The kitchen is the heart of the home, and your flooring can make all the difference in how welcoming and design-forward that space feels. If you want to infuse your kitchen with instant character, a ceramic tile floor is the way to go. From intricate mosaics to bold patterns, ceramic tiles bring personality to every square inch.
Why ceramic for the kitchen floor? It’s not just about looks–though with so many options, your design choices are nearly limitless. Ceramic tiles are an excellent (and popular) choice for kitchen floors. They are exceptionally durable, making them a smart choice for high-traffic areas like the kitchen, and their natural resistance to water and stains means they stand up to spills, splashes, and everyday wear and tear with ease.

At Fireclay, we have two Ceramic Tile product lines. Both of these product lines are responsibly made in the USA (as the first tile company to earn B Corp certification, we adhere to strict environmental regulations), the only difference is where and how we make them.
Our Original Ceramic Tile product line is made in our Aromas, California factory. This line offers a wide range of variety with over 100 hand-mixed, lead-free glaze colors and 40 shapes and sizes including Mosaic Tile and specialty shapes like Star & Cross, Hexite, Chaine Homme and more.
Made in our Spokane, Washington factory, our Natural Press Ceramic Tile is our newer product line that’s volume and budget-friendly. Choose from 15 versatile sizes and shapes, including mosaics, and 32 exclusive colors each available in gloss and satin finishes.
Now let’s get to the inspiration! As you scroll, keep in mind that if you love any of these looks you can tap on the blinking dots on the images to bring home color samples of the ceramic tiles shown.
Retro Midcentury Hexagons
Butter yellow has never looked so groovy. David Quarles IV chose a hexagon tile floor in our matte Sunflower glaze to match the midcentury Palm Springs vibe of his beautifully executed kitchen.
Cozy Up to Cottage Checkerboard
Now this is a space where we’d love to sip a warm drink out of a large mug. A masterclass in proportions, this charming kitchen by LaTonya Yvette features a scene-stealing large format checkerboard floor in alternating warm red and white shades.
Bright & Modern Handpainted
Handpainted Tile is sometimes stereotyped as uber-traditional, but many of our pieces fit beautifully into the most contemporary of spaces–like this kitchen featuring a neutral half-circle design that exudes modernity from the ground up.

Embrace Variation at its Finest
Due to the handmade nature of our products, some of our glaze colors exhibit a stunning range of color variation. That variation creates an eye-catching kitchen floor, demonstrated in the space below with 8” Hexagons in Antique.
Try a Classic With a Twist
White tiles are a go-to for many kitchen backsplashes, but they’re also a beautiful kitchen floor option. Put a twist on this classic choice by installing elongated white tiles in a herringbone pattern.

Go Mad for Plaid
We love a space that goes all in, something designer Claire Thomas excels at. Her quaint cabin kitchen embraces pink and green plaid mosaic tiles across both the backsplash and floor in a 1940s-inspired dream.
Custom Handpainted Colorway
One way to ensure your floor tile stands outis to make the rest of your kitchen neutral. The bright white kitchen below used a custom colorway of black, white and grey Handpainted Tile to draw the eye immediately to the floor.

Pull Color From Your Backsplash
If your backsplash contains multiple colors, you can craft a cohesive look by pulling color from your backsplash tile to replicate across your floor. Try incorporating that color in a different shape for visual interest.
Add Unexpected Elements
For example, black and white checkerboard is classic and beautiful–but make it your own by incorporating random pops of another color like boutique hotel Noble + Proper did in one of their cabin kitchens.
Transport Yourself to Spain
Channel the Spanish countryside with an earthy terracotta-esque kitchen floor. The airy space below used 8x8 Antique in a classic offset pattern that emphasizes the glaze’s natural color variation.

Be Bold
Bright orange tile isn’t for the faint of heart–which Danielle Nagel of Dazey LA loves. Her orange and tile checkered tile floor stretches throughout the retro kitchen into the living and dining area in her Dazey Desert House.

Dial Up the Drama
Make an iconic impression with black and white square tile in a diamond checkered pattern. This classic contrast begs to be paired with equally dramatic design throughout the rest of your space, and Hotel Julie more than delivered with the stunning kitchen below.

Try a Tri-Color Blend
Twice is nice, but sometimes the third time’s the charm when it comes to color. Take a page out of this beautiful kitchen’s book and pair three complimentary colors in an offset pattern for one eye-catching floor.
