Project Spotlight: SOMA Eats Gets an Industrial Cool Look With Azurine

Tile shown: Azurine in Paseo; Image: Patricia Chang Photography

SOMA Eats is a brand new modern cafe in the heart of downtown San Francisco, owned by husband-and-wife team, Oussama Mannaa and Shirley Azzghayer.  Designed to be an all-in-one bottle shop, wine bar, and cafe, SOMA Eats is meant to serve the busy professionals who work in the area from early morning to late at night.  The Cafe features a carefully curated selection of wines, craft beers, and artisanal spirits, all which pair perfectly with their menu items.  The menu features breakfast and lunch dishes that draw inspiration from their own family recipes.  "We created a menu based on everyday favorites, but punctuated by bright, global flavors.  We use the highest quality seasonal ingredients available in order to offer food we feel passionately about."  the owners say.  Along with a creative cafe concept, the couple came up with an equally inspired design for the space.  the best part?  It features our Paseo Shape in Azurine!

The space was designed by Abueg Morris Architects and is the ideal example of industrial-chic style.  Exposed brick walls, wood beams, industrial style lighting, reclaimed wood countertops, and rustic wood floors create contrast against the fresh Moroccan-inspired Azurine Tile.  It is a seamless blend of two styles that provides another layer of visual interest to the space.

The couple chose our Paseo shape in Azurine to line the front of the cafe's counter space.  The fresh teal hue adds a vibrant splash of color to a mainly neutral space.  The color adds warmth and character to the industrial-inspired design.  The Azurine tile is accented by custom light fixtures that mirror the teal hue, and a menu behind the counter in the same color.
