When Sara and Rich Combs bought their 1949 hacienda in Joshua Tree, they’d been craving a creative space surrounded by nature. Drawing inspiration from their desert surroundings and using handmade, natural materials they began to renovate—and haven’t stopped since. Today, the Joshua Tree House is comprised of several desert retreats, and each is a testament to Sara and Rich’s celebration of both nature and design.

The Joshua Tree House is a space that soothes and inspires. A hacienda located on the edge of Joshua Tree National Park, the house was renovated by Sara and Rich Combs. The Combs' Sara used our Mini Star & Cross pattern in Tusk and Antique to give their dreamy Joshua Tree House the modern hacienda treatment. We talked to Sara and Rich about what brought them to the desert, their kitchen renovation, and more.

When Rich and Sara Combs started remodeling their 400-square-foot homestead cabin in Joshua Tree, it had a lot of potential but was missing one crucial component–a bathroom. With the help of custom Handpainted Jardin Fretwork and Hexagon Tile, they remedied that issue and transformed the cabin into a peaceful retreat.
The Joshua Tree House took this homestead cabin from dreary to dreamy with the help of handmade hexagons. Across the floor, 8” Ceramic Hexagon Tile in Tumbleweed subtly echoes the look of the original stone fireplace while providing a cool base to walk on in the desert heat.
