Welcome to the Jungalow: Justina Blakeney's Deep Blue Primary Bath
By Kali Gibson

Designer, artist and creator of The Junaglow, Justina Blakeney has a style that is distinctly her own, so we were beyond excited when she chose to use our tile for her primary bath. Inspired by deep blue hues and the baths of Istanbul, Justina chose our color Adriatic Sea in two shapes, 8" Hexagons and Mini Star and Cross for the floor.
Her LA home was recently featured in House Beautiful and her appreciation of color, pattern and texture is evident throughout the space; this primary bath may be small at 4x6, but what it lacks in size it more than makes up for in style.

A bit about Justina:
My style can be described as... Jungalicious!
My design philosophy is… Feel free, have fun, decorate wild!
I got my start…by decorating (and redecorating!) my own home and documenting that process on my blog.
I find inspiration in…Nature, my daughter, and travel
My best design advice would be…follow your heart, not the trends.
Can you tell me about the space? What did it look like before? What did you change?
Before the bathroom was very (very!) tiny, just a standard 1-person shower and a toilet, all plastic, and then outside the bathroom, in the primary bedroom, was the vanity. The plan for the bathroom was to enclose the vanity into one the bathroom, and make the shower bigger. We knew we wanted tile to be the main design feature in the new bathroom.
Here's the before:

What type of look or aesthetic were you going for?
We wanted the bathroom to have a hammam-like feel. I love the idea of going to the spa every morning -- so this is kinda the next best thing.
And here is the after (view from the bedroom):

And here is the shower in all its glory (wowza!):

How did you come up with your color scheme and design?
We went through a lot of color samples and ideas. In the end we agreed on blue -- it just felt right for a bathroom--a place we wanted to feel relaxing and calming.

Why did you choose your color and shapes?
I've been dreaming of a blue hex tile for ages (see inspiration photo below). The first time I saw a deep blue hex I knew that I wanted that look somewhere in my home. We decided to create some contrast on the floor with the Mini Star & Cross tile, and then used my Nana wallpaper design to really go all jungalicious in there.

Tile Shown: Justina chose our Mini Star & Cross in Adriatic Sea for the bathroom flooring.

Justina designed the wallpaper featured in the bathroom! We love how it pairs with the rich blue of Adriatic Sea.

How did the installation process go? Did you face any challenges?
The installation process went pretty smoothly. Our main challenge was that we hadn't calculated for 'glazed edge' tiles on the niches that we made -- so we ran out of the tiles with the glazed edges before we had finished the project. Faced with a tight deadline we had to pivot and decided to use clay-colored grout so that the clay edges on the tile would look seamless with the grout color. In the end, it looks perfect, but at the time we were like "Oh sh&t!!"
