Not only is the shade a deep, timeless blue with eye-catching noticeable color variation, but the Navy Blue glaze has its own special characteristic when applied to our tile. As this glaze melts during the firing process, it slightly pools toward the middle of the tile, revealing a hint of our Red Clay Body along the outer edges. Referred to as “glaze break,” this is a natural tendency of all glazes but is more noticeable with Navy Blue.
We love this feature, as it visibly speaks to the intricacies of handmade tile and adds depth to the tile itself. If you’d prefer to disguise the glaze break somewhat, you can use a mid-toned grout color–just keep in mind that while grout can make the red body edge less noticeable it might still be slightly visible.

The beauty of Navy Blue Tile is that it can masterfully and elegantly ground any space, especially one that’s otherwise neutral. Want to add a contrasting element to your white kitchen that’s softer than black, but still impactful? Navy Blue is an ideal choice, illustrated in Studio 125’s airy kitchen below.

You can really make Navy Blue pop by outlining it in white grout. At Foxden Hospitality’s Joshua Tree retreat below, Scalene Triangle Tile in Navy Blue exudes sophistication in the pool suite bathroom with white grout adding eye-catching diagonal detail across the room’s backsplash and shower.

Because Navy Blue is such a classic color, it fits perfectly into virtually any design style–but particularly well in traditional design. Pair timeless subway tile in an offset pattern with architectural molding like below and you’ve got yourself a gorgeous fireplace that will never go out of style. The tile also offers a timeless anchor for playful accents surrounding the fireplace like patterned wallpaper.

If you’d like a more modern take on Navy Blue, try vertically stacked field tile. The dapper bathroom below cleans up nicely with 3x9 Tile in a neat vertically stacked pattern that shows off the glaze’s semi-reflective sheen. Like this look, but want something a bit more petite? Try Navy Blue on 2x6 or any other of our standard field sizes.

Navy Blue plays nicely with so many other colors, from yellow and orange to olive, burgundy, grey, and more. Don’t be afraid to think beyond white when designing with this shade. In Palo Alto’s Wildseed Restaurant below, the navy triangle tiles arranged in a striking 45-degree angle become an eye-catching focal point surrounded by complementing warm accents of gold, black, and cream.
