Each of our artisan colors has its own unique finish. Featuring Matte, Satin Matte, Gloss, Engobe and Patine, each finish is unique to that specific color and cannot be changed. Matte finishes are more suitable for floor installations than others.
Matte: Matte, non-reflective surface
Satin: Matte surface with light sheen differences
Gloss: Shiny, semi-reflective sheen
Gloss w/ Engobe: White undercoating on our Recycled tile accentuates glossy colors.
Patine: An antiquing process applied to a gloss glaze to accentuate the crackled nature of the glaze.
We price our tiles based on the color family and then by the size. For example, a color in Price Group A will have one price in the 4x4 size, but another price in the 12x12 size. Prices vary depending on the complexity of the glaze, the clay body, or the size. Not all colors are available in all sizes.
Express - $ - These colors are available on our recycled clay body and include our least expensive options in 4x4, 3x6, and 6x6. They also ship more quickly than our other tiles.
Recycled Clay Body - $$ - These colors are available on our recycled clay body and include all size options.
White Clay Body - $$$ - These colors are available on our white clay body and sizes do not go larger than 3x6.
Engobe - $$$$ - These colors are available on our recycled clay body and include most size options. These are slightly more expensive than Price Group B because of the additional “engobe” glaze to produce a slightly different color effect.
Patine - $$$$$ - These colors are available on our white clay body. They involve an additional “patine” finish whereby we hand rub a brown or black iron oxide into the tile, highlighting the natural crackle that occurs after glazing our White Clay body.
Certain tiles may craze over time, meaning small surface cracks may develop. Crazing is part of the inherent beauty of our tiles. We rate our glazes based on their level of crazing. Our scale goes from low to heavy, low being a slight crackle finish, heavy being the most crackled.
Our Recycled Clay Body is handmade of over 70% recycled content, including post-consumer waste up-cycled from curbside-recycled glass bottles, waste porcelain from toilets and bathtubs, and other manufacturer's pre-consumer waste, including granite dust and spent abrasives. We also have a White Clay Body.
V1 = UNIFORM APPEARANCE: Differences among pieces from the same production run are minimal.
V2 = SLIGHT VARIATION: Clear differences may exist in texture and/or shade within the same colors of any given batch run.
V3 = NOTICEABLE VARIATION: While the colors present on a single piece of tile will be indicative of the colors to be expected on the other tiles, the amount of color on each piece may vary significantly.
V4 = MODERATE VARIATION: Greater color and shade differences from tile to tile, so that one tile may have a noticeably different shade and/or texture from that of other tiles. This ensures that the final installation will be unique.
