Junior Staff Accountant

Location: San Francisco, CA Type: Full-Time

Fireclay is seeking a Junior Staff Accountant who will help build a best-in-class accounting department by playing a key role in defining and implementing process and system improvements required to rapidly scale the organization.  This position will perform a multitude of tasks varying in levels of difficulty in a fast paced environment.  This full time hands-on position is based in our San Francisco headquarters and reports to the Senior Accountant.  This is an excellent opportunity for those who enjoy doing something different every day – our rapid growth is creating new responsibilities in Accounting & Finance.

Fireclay Tile is changing the face of tile, from the sustainable ways that we make our product using recycled content and local manufacturing to how we engage and sell to customers. We are intensely focused on building a vertically integrated brand and ensuring that all of our customers have the best experience possible when buying tile. Simply, we want to make tile easy, and we want to sell the highest quality locally made products in the most user friendly way. In this role you'll be:

ACCOUNTS PAYABLE: Manage full cycle AP

  • Ensure timely and accurate payment to vendors and employees
  • Obtain approval and/or confirmation of receipt/completion of services
  • Check expense reports submitted for completion/accuracy
  • Enter approved invoices and expense reports in QuickBooks
  • Handle and resolve invoice/payable discrepancies

Process weekly check runs (checks, online EFT and credit card)

  • Ensure there are receipts for all charges on the credit cards & accuracy of account assignment
  • Maintain bank to QuickBooks connection and upload credit card charges on a regular basis

Maintain AP files

  • Obtain & maintain W-9 as needed
  • File 1099 at year-end
  • Issue Customer Refunds
  • Process and apply Deposits from customers
  • ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE: Support sales team with information regarding receivables and proactively providing feedback on open invoices
  • Develop and establish purchasing policy and process payments
  • Participate in ongoing system and business process improvements.
  • Provide guidance relating to accounting policies and accounting issues
  • Assist with light HR Personnel administrative duties related to new hire onboarding, payroll and benefit documentation
  • Assist with ad hoc and special projects as they arise

You'd be a great fit for this role if:

  • 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a fast pace or startup environment
  • Minimum 4-Year Degree in Accounting or other related field 
  • QuickBooks, Excel and Word experience. Experience with Salesforce.com a plus.
  • Detail oriented, flexible, self-starter who is able to work independently, juggle multiple priorities and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Organized with excellent attention to detail, meticulous, quick-learner
  • Good interpersonal skills, team player with flexibility and ability to adapt and wear different hats
  • Great work ethic and positive attitude
  • Must be enthusiastic and possess drive to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
  • Ability to identify problems and discrepancies, independently perform research and analysis of causes, and recommend corrective actions
