Mister Jiu's, a new San Francisco restaurant, serves up modern Chinese food amidst a blend of tile in saturated colors and geometric patterns. Owner and Chef Brandon Jew (alongside his wife Anna and Boor Bridges Architects) has created a space that is visually unforgettable (and of course, everyone is raving about the fare as well).
For the tiled kitchen area, the husband and wife duo (Brandon and Anna) chose Sea Green and we added a black patine to highlight the tile's crackle finish.

One of their big inspirations for the space was Chinese gardens, as well as their own garden. Anna says that, "Red is a popular color at Chinese restaurants and we felt like green would be a nice contrast. Also, it's the most relaxing color!"

Located in San Francisco's Chinatown, the light fixtures you see below inspired much of the restaurant's aesthetic, which were used from the restaurants previous occupants.

The parquet pattern that surrounds the kitchen area is a focal point of the space. Please note: Our tile is handmade so size variation is to be expected. If designing a specific pattern, contact us to understand if tile will be modular.

For the bathrooms, Brandon took on the design of the men's bathroom and Anna, the women's. One of our commercial team members, Caitlyn Child, worked with them to create a custom pink that would pay homage to classic pink tile bathrooms. Anna says, "The pink and blue in the bathroom are riffing off the upstairs banquet bathrooms...classic pink for women and blue for men. We added the black to the pink to give it a more modern feel."

If you are considering a pink tile, try our standard glaze, Stilbite for a look that will be similar to the bathroom above:

Brandon went for blue in the men's bathroom, choosing one of our larger specialty shapes, Picket, to do the job:
