Meet the Dream Team: Emily Riechel
A Bit About Me...
Design has always been a part of my life and I've really enjoyed working in various facets of the design world. Since I can remember I've been interested in how the elements around us affect emotion and how we interact. I spent four years working in a furniture and home furnishings showroom in San Francisco, where consultations were very much a part of my job description. As a result, I very organically began to do real estate staging. In this position, I discovered the balancing act of too much vs. too little and how people move through a space. I remember stumbling on Fireclay’s Instagram feed and was instantly charmed. The tile world was one that I hadn’t really discovered yet and I couldn’t look away from the irresistible colors and textures. The beautiful product coupled with sustainable practices and Fireclay Tile’s B Corp status is a combination you can’t find anywhere else! And I wanted to be a part of it.
I have such a hard time putting a label on my style. I am drawn to so much and find beauty everywhere. But there are a few elements that ring true consistently. I enjoy a good mix of old and new; owning something now is worth owning forever. But I’m not completely dedicated to the vintage look. A big staple for me are wood grains and organic elements which add warmth and texture. Another common thread are deep rich colors. Give me a mustard yellow or a navy blue any day.

My Favorite Fireclay Tile Products...
4” Triangles in Blue Spruce. Blue Spruce is the perfect neutral with just a dash of color. This subtle grey-blue-green is a perfect match for the 4” triangle. The pattern and texture of this duo is perfect.
3x3s in Stilbite. My heart skips a beat for Stilbite. Yes, I’m talking about that delicious matte pink color. Pink gets a bad rap sometimes but it’s not just for the girly girls anymore. This warm color is cheery and sophisticated. It can be calming or vibrant depending on its application but I think this would look particularly amazing in 3x3 laid in a straight-set pattern.
6" Hexagons in Basalt. There are so many irresistible colors in our offering that I think the magic of this black-gray is sometimes overlooked. This soft-matte tone is so elegant and timeliness on a bathroom floor in a 6” or 8” hexagon.
My Favorite Fireclay Tile Projects...
Navy Blue Fireplace - This Navy Blue fireplace by Studio Muir is everything. The deep, lavish color is so divine installed alongside white walls. So clean and inviting, like ice cream for my eyeballs.
Light Lab Kitchen and Bathroom - Light Lab did a fantastic job of illustrating the character of our 6” triangle on the facade of the kitchen island. Within the same studio, the bathroom floors in Basalt and Calcite, also in 6” triangles, is a modern take on the traditional checkered floors. Everything about this space is perfectly executed.
Old Cairo Bathrooms - Old Cairo has always been one of my favorite hand-painted tile patterns. So when I saw this bathroom install utilizing Old Cairo my jaw dropped to the floor. This is such a stunning use of color and texture. The brass fixtures with the Tusk and Peabody backdrop is such an appealing color palette.
