Many Thanks to You

Many Thanks to You

Please Note: CRT Temporarily Unavailable
Due to material shortages, CRT tile will be unavailable until further notice. We're working hard to restock our supply and will let you know as soon as it's back in action. In the meantime, we've got plenty more 100% recycled Glass tiles to choose from!

CRT all started with Paul's idea to melt e-waste glass and turn it into tile.  Then came Kickstarter–In order to bring CRT to the market we needed funding to make the special molds necessary for manufacturing the product.  We received a HUGE response from our customers and the Kictstarter community and ended up raising over $16,000!  That was 160% of our goal!  So this Thanksgiving we wanted to give a big thanks to all of you who supported us in making CRT tile a reality.

Jennifer and her husband have been long time friends of Fireclay, and were one of our generous backers during our Kickstarter campaign.  The couple recently finished their CRT installation in their beautiful Bay Area home and were nice enough to share their project with us.  And today we're excited to share it with all of you!

We took a few minutes to chat with Jennifer about her experience with Fireclay and our Kickstarter campaign, and her CRT installations.

Hi Jennifer!  First of all, why did you choose to back our Kickstarter project?

Jennifer – We had chosen Fireclay for several other rooms in our home and wanted to support Paul.  We loved the clever use of recycled computers and televisions.

Why did you decide to use CRT in this space?  What does your family use this space for?

Jennifer – We used CRT in our laundry rooms and mudroom.   It was the perfect choice for those two locations and suited the industrial style of those rooms.

Why did you choose the 2 x 8 size?

Jennifer – We actually chose both sizes, 2x8 and penny rounds.  For the 2x8, we chose a straight set pattern with contrast grout which looks fantastic.

How did the installation process go?  Any challenges?

Jennifer – None at all, it was very smooth.

Did you work with a designer or a Fireclay team member on your project?

Jennifer – Yolanda in San Jose was enormously helpful and generous with her time.

Thanks for chatting with us, Jen!

Jennifer and her husband used Phosphor gloss in our 2 x 8 size in the home office and mudroom.  The Straight Set layout fits the contemporary feel of the CRT, and pairs well with the crisp white storage units and charcoal gray counter space.

The couple also chose to use CRT in their laundry room.  For this space they installed a decorative accent of CRT gloss rounds on a soft gray wall, adding just the right amount of personality to the space.

CRT is our first ever product made from 100% post-consumer e-waste. CRT, also known as Cathode Ray Tube glass, was used to make the glass screens in old televisions and computer monitors.

We crushed that e-waste up and turned it into tile.  This infographic tells our CRT story from start to finish.

CRT Glass Tile is available in one color, Phosphor, which is the true cool gray color of cathode tube ray glass.  Phosphor is available in both gloss and matte finishes and will have a noticeable level of variation in color due to the different batches of recycled material we receive.

We offer Phosphor in 3 contemporary, sizes, 2x4, 2x8 and rounds.
