Installation Stories: Modern Meets Blue Lagoon

Wanting to bring in more light and color to their client's home, City Home Collective incorporated its own brand of whimsy into this sleek and modern kitchen, that features our Ogee Drops in Lagoon. City Home Collective (who are both realtors and designers) shared the story of this beautiful home with us below (there is some pretty amazing wallpaper and an indoor tree too)!

First a bit about City Home Collective:

Our style can be described as...Brave, layered, comfortable, rebellious, lasting, tactile, global, and balanced. We aspire to reflect the client in their living space.
Our design philosophy is...Always start with the client. Who is the client and what is the space? We honor the architecture and purpose of space. Trust the process. Take a chance.
We find inspiration in...Nature, travel, our clients, handmade items, art, fashion, architecture, our community, each other, eras, history, books and magazines, imperfection, sacred spaces, museums, and myriad other random things.
Our best design advice would be...Design selfishly - create the space you want to be in, make it personal. Take risks. Don't worry about what everyone else is doing.
We love tile because....Because you can touch it. It reflects the hand of the artist, brings in color. Tile alludes to history in a way that other materials can't. (See first answer. It has everything we believe in).
Our favorite tile color is....At the moment our current fave is the Stardust Brick. Loving!

Now onto this project:

Can you tell me about the space? Is there a story behind the project you'd like to share?
The very first thing we started with was our client's mother's Indian art collection. They had purchased a new home with a ton of potential, but it felt very dark. We wanted to bring in a brightness and their love of color that was curated around that art collection.

How involved were the clients in the design process?
They got really excited about the design process and were courageous in their choices. They were willing to take risks.

What type of look or aesthetic were you going for?
Colorful, rich, happy. But, we wanted to add a layer of crispness. There is an eccentricity without the bad connotation. It's unconventional.

How did you come up with your color scheme/design?
We were inspired by our client's art, that amazing indoor tree, and also this Calico sunrise wallpaper. It was one of the first design elements we landed on. Our clients love the outdoors, and we wanted to bring some of that in.

You can see that Calico wallpaper in the image below:

What made you go for Ogee Drops in Lagoon? Were there other shapes up for consideration?
The client LOVED that color. They were immediately drawn to the shape. It was the first tile we considered, and we went with it!

6. How did the installation process go? Did you face any challenges?
The whole process went really smoothly. We have a local tile layer who is beyond awesome.

Had any one at the firm ever worked with our tile before?
Yes, we use Fireclay all the time!

Lastly, which of our colors/patterns are you hoping to use on any future projects?
Ensenito!!! We are all obsessed.
