Floor Tile: Step up your Kitchen Style

You've likely considered tile for your kitchen backsplash, but what about for your floors? We get a lot of questions about if our tile is suitable for flooring and the answer is: Yes, of course! Tile has been a popular choice for flooring for centuries and for good reason: it's durable, easy to clean and it looks good too. From our Thin Glazed Brick to our Tile to our Handpainted Collections you are bound to find a tile that suits your style. Below, we'll walk you through our products that are suitable for residential kitchens, along with design inspiration (visit our Pinterest Board if you want more).

From rustic to modern, our Thin Glazed Brick is well suited for an array of kitchen styles. We love the mix of tile and brick in the installation below.

A classic, yet compelling choice, a herringbone pattern in brick adds visual interest while not overwhelming a space.

In a residential space, you can opt for our White or Recycled Clay Body (more on those here) and from a classic subway size to a geometric shape, you have a lot of options. We generally like to recommend matte or satin glazes for flooring in a damp area like the bathroom to avoid slipping, but with a kitchen you can do a mix of the two finishes.

Hexagons are a classic choice for tile floors and they look great in kitchens. Go for a single color or for a blend like the one below:

Go for tile on the walls and the floor. Try our Tusk in a 6x6 (at $15/SF) from our Foundations Collection and pair with our matte black, Basalt for an effect like the one below.

We're also really into tile floors like the one below. If you like the terra cotta feel, try our glaze Antique in the size of your choosing.

For a classic, rustic look like the one above, we suggest a 3x6 or 4x8 size, but think our Hexite would make for an interesting take on such a classic finish:

From classic to contemporary, the range of patterns from our Handpainted Collections makes it easy to find the perfect tile for your space. While the detailed nature of these tiles might make you think they are delicate, our handpainted tiles are truly built to last. All patterns are made on our Recycled Clay Body, ensuring a durable, long lasting tile that is of heirloom quality.

If you like the soft look of the kitchen floor above, go for a pattern from our Contemporary Collection or use our COLOR-IT Tool to create a custom tile of your very own.

Going for a more traditional or classic look? Take a look at our Cuerda Seca, Mediterranean or Moroccan Collections; all of our patterns can be specified to your desired color palette!

White square tile and handpainted work so well together, as you can see from the backsplash and flooring combination above. Use one of our Foundation sizes (4x4 or 6x6) and pair with something like Vitoria to mimic this kitchen.

Large Format:
Our larger format series, EDGE is perfect for flooring if you are going for a more modern aesthetic. We offer 3x9, 3x18 and 6x18 sizes in these larger, rectified edged tiles. Try them in a grid, offset, parquet or herringbone pattern.

For a sleek kitchen floor like the one above, try one of our EDGE colors, like Gypsum set in a herringbone pattern.
