A Blue Glass Tile Backsplash Transformed This Modern Kitchen

This before and after will have you doing a double take. Kelly Finley’s kitchen pre-transformation featured all the trimmings of functional design but lacked a certain je ne sais quoi–until the creative force behind Joy Street Design stepped in with a modern blue glass tile backsplash.

Joy Street Design’s entire ethos is to create spaces that fill its clients with joy, so Kelly knows a thing or two about designing with bold, dopamine-inducing colors and patterns. Since its inception in 2011, the firm has gained national acclaim for both its design acumen and its connected non-profit, Joy Street Initiative. 10% of Joy Street Design’s profits are donated to Joy Street Initiative, which is dedicated to improving lives through transforming spaces of local shelters catering to women and children. Their goal with both organizations is to create environments that encourage people to live their best lives joyfully.

With that in mind, Kelly went for bright and bold in her home. Her kitchen was a natural place to pull in the depth and electric blue shade of our 3x12 Magpie Matte Glass Tile. Located on the second floor of her home, it’s drenched in sunlight so the blue not only complements the natural light but also mirrors the view from the windows. Talk about bringing the outside in!

The vertically stacked pattern on the backsplash was another intentional choice. Not only does this pattern add height and a modern feel to the space especially with our oversized 3x12 shape, but it also matches the tile patterns she used in her bathrooms, creating a continuous thread throughout her home.

Aside from the backsplash, she replaced the builder-grade wood cabinets and black countertops with bright white counters, cabinets, and a custom white oak range hood to finish off the contemporary look, allowing the blue glass to be the star of the show.
