Fireclay has always gone above and beyond, not only with their product, but with there customer service!

Beautifu Tile!

Aug 16, 2011

Beautiful tile, great variety of shapes, sizes and colors. Love that these are made locally and with the environment in mind!

Super to Work With!

Aug 09, 2011

As a retailer of Sandhill and Fireclay Tile, Fireclay was super to work with on a recent order.  There were numerous change orders to the original PO and they were patient and responsive to them.  The changes didn’t change the production time or add additional cost.  When the tiles arrived, I checked all the boxes to make sure there was no damage and there was not.  The final product looks amazing and the client can not wait to have these 100% recycled glass tiles installed in her newly renovated kitchen.  I will send photos to FC when the installation is complete.

I have placed other orders with Fireclay and have been very pleased by their dealer customer service.  I am very much looking forward to Fireclay’s new line of recycled glass tiles called “CRUSH” that will replace Sandhill who went out of business. I carry several different lines of recycled and recycled glass tile but the selection from Fireclay is outstanding.

Purchased Five Orders from Fireclay Tile

Jul 20, 2011

I have purchased five orders from FireClay, all for home projects. I have been helped out with all my questions, concerns and even fears because I do not have much experience with clay. I have nothing to worry about and so I have returned over and over. I love wandering around the bone yard looking at all the wonderful possibilities.
You will see me again very soon.

A Hidden Gem

Jun 03, 2011

Fireclay is a hidden gem. It may take a bit to find them and the parking can be tricky, but what they can offer is amazing—custom tiles made to your specifications from recycled products, all here in San Jose. A great way to add something special to your home. The “boneyard” is a terrific resource for those making mosaics or working on larger projects. I expected to find odds and ends but there really is a lot of product out there.

Choose Fireclay Over All Else!

May 27, 2011

I am very happy with the service, quality of product, and lead time of Fireclay. It is a joy to sell and promote. I have access to a varity of handmade tile lines and will continue to choose Fireclay over all of them!

The Attention I Received Was Great

Apr 11, 2011

Even though my purchase was small and minimal, the care and attention I received were great. I have passed the word around to my friend about your business. The designer who helped me twice, because I put two orders on different time frames was invaluable, very helpful, nice and showed great patience.

Amazing Company

Apr 08, 2011

Fireclay Tile is an amazing company leading the way in sustainable, healthy options for end-users. We are thrilled that the recycled content glass tiles (Crush) from Fireclay Tile will be the focal point of the kitchen backsplash at the renovated USGBC Colorado Headquarters (pursuing a LEED ID+C Platinum rating).

Everyone at Fireclay tile is very professional and one couldn’t ask for more! Thanks for all of the help that you have given me in the last two months.

It’s Beautiful!

Mar 24, 2011

When I came to Fireclay’s showroom, I was uncertain about my design. After spending several days exploring the excellent Web site before coming, and then coming in and working with Dearsy, I was super-satisfied that I had made the right design decisions! Now that the tile is in, I am more convinced than ever. It’s beautiful!!

Simply Amazed

Feb 19, 2011

We were simply amazed at the attention and dedicated service we received at creating a “one of a kind” ceramic tile art-work for our kitchen; Dearsey is such a doll.

I Love Fireclay Tile!

Feb 15, 2011

I love Fireclay Tile! Great assortment of tiles, love the option of the bone-yard and the mosaic bin, and the people that work there have always been super helpful, friendly, and know their products.

Incredibly Satisfied

Feb 15, 2011

My first name is Tracy and I am from Roswell NM
We search for over a month looking at tile form different stores and online. When we came across Fireclay tile we were sceptical. We didn’t know anything about the company or if they would ship the tile to us. When I called I was surprised, I actually spoke to a real person who was friendly and who could answer the questions I had. The whole process was fast simple and easy. The tile is well made and looks wonderful. My boss who just redid her kitchen wish she would of waited so she too could of used Fireclay tile. Our tile guys are going to recommend Fireclay to future clients.

Stellar Customer Service

Feb 15, 2011

I want to thank you for your stellar customer service, everything was delivered on time without a hitch, and your staff is very knowleadgeable when it comes to your products and production. I’m looking forward to doing more business with Fireclay as the economy picks up.

You Had Just What We Needed

Feb 03, 2011

After searching through the home stores and the other local tile shops someone referred me to your shop. We have a 1940’s Deco/Spanish home that has a charm that so many pre-midcentury homes in the San Jose area have. We where looking for a tile that would serve it justice and not look like “2011”. You had just what our home needed.

Thank you,

Patty

I will certainly be back!

Feb 03, 2011

I always enjoy coming into Fireclay Tile.  The quality of your tile is superb, the staff is very friendly and the bargains in the boneyard are very welcome since I am restoring a 1930’s Spanish split level home and as you know Spanish styling is all about the tile.  I have completed a bathroom that gets rave reviews with many more projects in the planning stage.  I will certainly be back.

The Tile is Gorgeous!

Dec 19, 2010

The tile is gorgeous. The quality is incredible. I am proud to retail such a fine product.

Highly Recommend Fireclay Tile

Dec 19, 2010

As an artist, I first worked with Fireclay Tile to help schoolchildren in Armoas, CA make a tile mural for their school depecting the history of their town. Fireclay Tile generously provided the materials, firing and technical advice for the project. Since then, I worked with Fireclay Tile to fire tiles for a personal art project and I have bought tiles for a construction project. Fireclay has a wonderful selction of tiles and a friendly, very professional staff to advise customers. I would highly recommend this company.

Well Made and Easy to Work With

Nov 29, 2010

The tile looks absolutely beautiful and it’s not a style I was able to find anywhere else between Burlingame and San Jose. My installer said it looked well made and was very easy to work with.

Four weeks was a surprise, since everything I had found up to that point was available much more quickly but it worked out perfectly, arriving the day before it was scheduled to be installed. I was able to pick it up on Monday even though the shop was not officially open. Your salesroom was the only one I went into where the sales staff (Dearsy) was willing to take time to plan a layout with me.

Fine Quality Products and Excellent Service

Nov 26, 2010

Fireclay Tile offers fine quality products and excellent service at their showroom.
Their “Boneyard” has many extra pieces to choose from at a discount price.
Our orders were ready on time or even earlier.
Of all the changes we have made in our kitchen, the tile has been the one I am most pleased with.

Wonderful Job!

Nov 24, 2010

You guys do a wonderful job, you beat your ETA’s and have wonderful customer service! Although we have only placed a few orders with you thus far, we cannot speak highly enough about your company!

Unique Resource

Nov 21, 2010

Dearsy at Fireclay Tile went out of her way to make sure that I was satisfied with my order, including having a batch of tile re-fired to insure the color was just right. She communicated regularly, and had a great attitude. She is a huge asset to Fireclay.  Fireclay is a unique Bay Area resource - it’s worth a visit for anyone looking for something different.

Delighted with the Results!

Nov 21, 2010

have always enjoyed Fireclay Tiles! Each home that has used your product was delighted with the end results.

Love Fireclay

Nov 11, 2010

I always love my experience with Fireclay and love the products.

Worth The 9 Hour Round Trip Drive!

Sep 15, 2010

Thank you for assistance with loading our purchase. We enjoyed the time spent to plan our project based on what was available in the bone yard. We’ll be back for the next tile project. It was worth the 9 hour round trip drive.

Very Fond of Fireclay

Sep 14, 2010

We are very fond of Fireclay. We like the tiles enormously - they are in Dick’s bathroom and in Tadge’s (my grandson) bathroom. You can see them on our website.  www.harborfarm.com Top right corner copy block has a bold face line referring to our house, click on that. Our house will come up with a list of rooms.  Dick’s is “A Master Bathroom” and Tadge’s is"Bathroom B”.

We also appreciate doing business with each of you. You arre always most helpful.

Thank you. Jimmy

Instantly Among Friends

Sep 14, 2010

What I like about Fireclay is that when you walk in, you’re instantly among friends. Even if everyone is busy with customers, there’s always a friendly word assuring service. I’ve shopped the “boneyard” twice, and assistance in selecting and loading my purchase was first rate. I live about 150 miles upstate from San Jose, but I’ll always shop my tile with the folks at Fireclay.

Expertise Was Amazing!

Sep 09, 2010

Hello-

I am so very thankful for the help and assistance that I received. The expertise was amazing from Martin and Dearsy and everyone.

I am grateful for the Boneyard sale for it enabled me to do my bathroom in a special way that may have not have been possible otherwise. I believe I will have a room to treasure forever now.

Sincerely

Bette

Staff is Amazingly Helpful

Aug 06, 2010

The staff at Fireclay were amazingly helpful - from design suggestions to ensuring we ordered the correct amount of tile. We keep coming back to purchase tile here as we love the customer service.

Now that is Service!

Aug 05, 2010

We were installing our tiles and found out the day of that we were missing about 30” worth of tile. Dearsy helped me locate the tile and I was able to pick it up (the last sheet) to complete my project. Now that is service! Thank you!

Very happy Selling Fireclay Tile

Aug 03, 2010

You turned an express order around for us lightning fast! Thank you! We went past our lead times by 2 or 3 days on a couple of other orders. Nothing major but I had a very anxious customer on one of them who couldn’t wait another day so it became a much bigger issue than need be. Overall I am very happy to be selling Fireclay Tile and look forward to selling a lot more

Enormous Selection + Personal Service

Aug 03, 2010

I have done several projects using tile but I have never seen the enormous selection of tiles and the very personal service from a tile maker. I feel good about supporting a local business knowing that my purchase keeps people in our community employed. I invested in this custom tile because I know that my project is going to last

Goldmine for Mosaic Artists

Aug 02, 2010

Fireclay TIle is a gold mine for mosaic artists. The tile is amazingly beautiful and the boneyard is a huge smorgasboard of treasure! Everyone that works there is super competant, all around good people.

Diamond in the Rough!

Jul 30, 2010

Fireclay has quality product at a reasonable price which is hard to find.
But on top of this the service is OUTSTANDING! What more could I ask for. Truly a diamond in the rough!

Newly remodeled bathroom

Jul 23, 2010

We have Fireclay tile lining the walls of our newly remodeled bathroom and it’s beautiful.  The accent that really brings excitement are the hand-painted tiles made by Joy Munshower (http://tilegoddess.com/) sculpted into the Fireclay tile.  It’s such a great synergy—hand-made tile and a few truly artistic hand-painted accents.  I’m sad to hear that management is thinking of moving away from the hand-painted tile, though; I’d rather see them just up the price for the little artworks.  It’s also great to know that our tiles are about half recycled material!  Green, not just green-washed! (Note this review came from yelp and received 5 stars)

Great Customer Service

Jul 19, 2010

I had to have some clay tiles stain and finished for a client of mine for a repair that I was doing. The batch went fine with a few minor issues. The great thing is that I have never seen a company get back to me so quickly and the customer service was great. Martin got back to me and took care of everything. This company is a stand up tile company. I guess that’s why they have been around so long.  I am also telling all of my client about there recycled glass line of tiles. Thanks Fire Clay!!! (This review came from yelp.com and was given 5 stars)

Most Beautiful Tile Ever Seen

Jul 05, 2010

This is simply the most beautiful tile I’ve ever seen.  The color and texture are fantastic.  Everyone who sees my kitchen comments about how beautiful the tile is as soon as they see it.  When they look at it more closely, they love it even more.  Even the building inspector, who’s seen it all, commented about the beauty of the Debris tile.  Additionally, the customer service I received from Fireclay was great.  Twice I had to order special configurations of bullnose tiles, and both times they came quickly and did not slow the construction project.

Fireclay tile will be the first brand I look at when I redo my bathrooms, hopefully in the next year.

Friendly Staff, Beautiful Tile

Jul 02, 2010

Joy, the resident artist of the FireClay team, helped us select and design a magnificent half-wall topped with each of the Cuerda Seca series tile in our weaving studio. It provides a perfect environment for creativity and fun. We have found the FireClay staff to be friendly and helpful, the tiles lines and colors to be exceptional. The recent showroom improvements and the new tile boards welcome exploration and opens the world of design. The showroom is now an interesting meeting of the traditional and contemporary. Kudos to the designer! Thanks again Martin for the welcome and exceptional barbeque.

Beautiful Tiles!

Jul 02, 2010

What’s not to like!  The tiles are beautiful and the custom painting by Joy is amazing.  My husband was very particular on the colors of the fish in our tiles (varieties of trout) and Joy worked with him patiently to make sure they were both on the same page before even painting us samples.  These fish look like they will swim off into the bathtub now!  Her attention to detail and determination to make us happy were well worth the wait!  Other staff was also friendly and helpful - something I haven’t found in any other local tile stores lately…..

LOVE going through the boneyard.  Being a dabbler at mosaics myself, the possibilities are endless out there and the prices are great!  smile  Also lots of opportunities for small tiling projects at rock bottom prices. (This review came from Yelp and was given 5 stars)

Generous Samples. Very Knowledgeable!

Jul 01, 2010

Beautiful inventory, creative staff (Thanks very much, Joy), a generous policy with samples, and a treasure trove in their ‘boneyard.’  Their staff are very knowledgeable and helpful, and they have a wide selection (possibly too many good choices here, we learned quite a bit over 3 visits and happily made our final decisions).

FANTASTIC TILES!

Jun 30, 2010

FANTASTIC TILES!
FANTASTIC SALES/ SUPPORT (Joy!)

Incredible period tiles, colors and designs.  We were very lucky to find Fireclay Tile.  Their tiles are the finishing touch to our 1920’s California/ Spanish home!! (note: This review came from Yelp and received 5 stars)

Craftsmanship is still with us!

Jun 29, 2010

Handmade tiles….craftsmanship is still with us.  What a riot of choices, colors, new designs…my head is spinning.  I came in to look at simple white subway tiles but I got blindsided by the beautiful array of merchandise.  The Boneyard is fun too.  But best of all, the service is top notch!  Dearsy helped me with what I thought I wanted then steered me toward other options I hadn’t considered.  There happened to be a VERY difficult customer there during my visit and Dearsy’s patience with her was commendable.  I’ll be back clutching my samples to make my final decisions. (Note this review came from Yelp and received 5 stars)

Started small, then went Big on Fireclay!

Jun 25, 2010

I first went to FireClay looking for small deco tiles to include in an Arts & Crafts bathroom and ended up doing the entire bathroom with FireClay.  I fell in love with their beautiful handmade tiles and felt virtuous choosing product from their Debris line made from reclaimed industrial byproduct.  Long story short, we are now working on our second bathroom and once again using FireClay tile.  I second the other Yelpers who praised FireClay’s service, selection, and all-around great company.

Tip:  I got field tile from the Boneyard that had variations in shading that look great in the shower (I saw mass-produced tile at another local shop that tried unsuccessfully to imitate this Arts and Craft effect).  If you find Boneyard tiles you like, you can have the finishing pieces (quarter -rounds, bullnose etc) made to order. (This review came from Yelp and received 5 stars)

Green California Company

Jun 16, 2010

I found Fireclay Tile after researching ‘Green’ companies in San Jose
(it came up as one of the top) - Fireclay offered to provide a tour to my students who are studying ‘Green’ concepts.  The experience was excellent and before they left, each student was able to pick out their own custom tile trivet to take home.  They all loved it!  The entire Fireclay staff was friendly and knowledgeable.

After seeing the quality of their work and the different color/styles available, I will definitely make my next tile purchase at Fireclay Tile. (Note: This review came from Yelp and received 5 stars)

Beautiful tiles found on eBay

He was unbelievably helpful and my tiles are Amazing. I love my new backsplash.

Fireclay for Landscape Architecture

Apr 20, 2010

We discovered Fireclay Tile while creating custom tiles for a three year long project.

As landscape architects, we constantly look for new textures and materials. The range of custom colors that Fireclay Tile offers is really nice. There are several tile series to choose from and many are new and avant-garde.

We especially appreciate the Debris Series, using recycled clay for sustainability. It is great to be able to create custom tiles while maximizing sustainability, one of our firm’s goals.

The professionalism we encountered during each visit makes Fireclay Tiles a great
company to work with. Generous with its samples, Fireclay Tile also has a fantastic
boneyard. It encompasses treasures for each of us, as we find material to use in unique and fun ways to enrich a wall, a planter or a water feature.

More recently we had the pleasure to work with Fireclay as a sponsor for our exhibit of
an 800 square foot garden at the San Francisco Flower and Garden Show in March of 2010.

We designed and built a custom table with inlaid mosaic tiles from the Fireclay Tile Boneyard. Tile chosen for their range of complimentary colors also adorned a series of planters.

Many visitors admired the table and planters, and were endlessly directed to Fireclay and the boneyard. I feel that by now the boneyard may be close to empty!!!

We exhibited the same table at the California Flower and Garden Show a few weeks later, with much success among visitors.  The nearby exhibitors also appreciated the table, as we gathered to celebrate the end of each day with Champagne, beer, wine and cheese!

Thanks again to Fireclay for its sponsorship.
We look forward to keeping on working with you for many successful years to come.

Partner Luciole Design Inc.

Super Helpful Staff

Apr 18, 2010

SUPER helpful staff (Thank you, Joy), extremely well laid-out showroom.  I especially liked how simple it was to peruse through the aisle of organized tile samples and play around with color schemes on the carpeted table.

And then I learned that taking home samples was absolutely FREE.  Its like checking out a book at the library…take whatever you want and just know you’re going to be returning their property once you’re done making a decision.  Kudos to that!  I hate having to pay for samples when I really have no idea what direction I’m heading in.  Especially when hubby has a very busy schedule and dragging him to a tile shop is NOT going to happen on his only day off.  This saves me time, energy and increases my efficiency in getting the project done.

Prices are average…around $25 sq/ft.  But you can save a ton in their Boneyard…a self serve tile yard behind the building that houses quite a bit of left-over tile or discontinued colors etc.

Really good, and reasonably priced

Apr 18, 2010

We found this tile shop on the recommendation of a tile professional—who told us the tile was “really good, and reasonably priced”. We are working on a remodel of two bathrooms in a beach house—wanting to find tile we love (hand made, rustic, beautiful) but not having much time or budget to work with since we sort of ripped out the kitchen/baths on a whim. Sounds impossible, right?

The ‘Bone Yard’ at Fireclay Tile is a treasure hunters playground. I spent several hours in three separate visits scouring the piled-high boxes and tables—and with the cheerful help of the staff, was able to find amazing tile for both bathrooms. Gorgeous hand-glazed ceramic tiles, using environmentally friendly glazes, rich and beautiful decorative tiles, and incredibly also enough of the edge pieces to complete our project. IF you find something that works well in the Bone Yard, you simply cannot beat the price! Trims for $1 each tile, for example. Inventory is, of course, an odd assortment, but we found plenty of great options for our small-ish projects.

The staff inside the showroom was also lovely—helping us to order the odd corner, edge and trim pieces that we needed to properly complete the projects, sending control samples—and asking the vendor to make them on a ‘rush’ basis for us to meet our timeline.

What impressed me most about Fireclay, is that the staff was universally friendly and helpful—despite the fact that I was mostly shopping from the ‘boneyard’. They were fun to work with (they all seem to really enjoy their jobs!), and professional in their follow-up on a number of things during my treasure hunt. They also have some really special items—that I hadn’t seen elsewhere.

I highly recommend this business on it’s own—but all the more so in comparison to some of the other tile showrooms I’ve been to which were sterile, a bit uptight, and not always too helpful. Fireclay staff never tried to ‘sell’ me anything, they just helped.

What a Class Act!

Apr 13, 2010

Hi Amie:  I had good intentions to send you a e-mail some time ago to describe
my experience with Fire Clay Tile but things being what they are and me changing
internet carriers got a bit behind.  Anyway I just can’t thank you people enough
for the great job you did in duplicating a tile and really made my day.  Everybody
was so kind and just great and particulary Alex and Joy (I think I have the name
right) were so helpful.  What a CLASS ACT, I just can’t say enough about dealing
Fire Clay Tile.  I’m attaching some before and after pictures, I hope they come out
O.K. and you wil be able to see why I’m so pleased, also am mailing some “after
repair” pictures to use for identifying the replaced tile - should be fun.  Any way
THANK YOU ALL very much!  John W.

Our Clients LOVE Fireclay Tile

Apr 09, 2010

Our clients absolutely love Fireclay! I keep a sample of a backsplash one client ordered always on display, and everyone who sees it wants it in their home. We specialize in eco-friendly, nontoxic building materials, so Fireclay’s story is perfect for us. We feel good about offering Fireclay, and our clients love the result. Here’s the Backsplash: 2"x6” subway tiles in Pampas Grass and 2"x2” rubbed spiral in various colors:

Perfect Tile for Backplash

Mar 29, 2010

One of the delights was to find out that you used mostly re-cycled material. If the dealer
(Mission Tile, Santa Cruz) told us that, then we must’ve been taken by how perfect the
tile was for our backsplash. The small purchase we made directly with you was, unfortunately,
just for some trim pieces. I was pleasantly surprised by the 2 week time frame you quoted - and
even moreso when you met it!

Recommend Fireclay for Any Tiling Job

Mar 19, 2010

As a professional mosaic artist, I was thrilled to discover this gold mine of beautiful tiles.  In their boneyard you can pick and choose from a huge assortment of creme of the crop colorful artisan tiles at $5 per sf!!! Their staff is fully knowledgeable and all around super nice people. I absolutely recommend Fireclay for any tiling job!

Abundance of Tile at Attractrive Prices

Mar 19, 2010

My wife and I visited Fireclay Tile to find tiles for our shower renovation. We want an attractive, natural feeling shower. We do not want to spend a fortune. Fireclay Tile’s Boneyard (their overstocked tile) was perfect. It offered an abundance of tiles at very attractive prices. Rather than spending $2000 on tile, we spent only $500 and got what we wanted.

Everyone Here is Really Nice

Mar 18, 2010

Love this place.  Everything (I think) is handmade and you can order pretty much any tile in any color.

Everyone here is really nice and, just as a prior reviewer said, it’s that way even if you’re not dropping $5,000 on custom tile for your bathroom—although it would be easy to do in here.  They also have a “boneyard” located just outside the shop, where there are hundreds of boxes of tile that came out the wrong color, or were overruns.  If you don’t have a specific color in mind and are on a budget, or if you’re just doing a little project, it’s so fun to look.

Wouldn’t Buy Tile Anywhere Else

Mar 17, 2010

My husband and I have been buying from Fireclay Tile for a couple of years now and we have always received the best personal service and expertise from your staff. We wouldn’t think of buying our tile anywhere else.

Lucky Find

Dec 31, 2009

We lucked out finding Fireclay tile in the yellow pages.
They patiently helped us figure out every aspect of our first tile project.
When their hand painted tiles arrived, they were BEAUTIFUL.
They even helped us with contractor recommendations, and honest assessments of each contractor’s plusses and minuses.

Home improvement projects can be a real drag sometimes… However, working with Fireclay tile was a complete joy from start to finish! Can’t wait to do it again.

Philosophy on Sustainability

Dec 19, 2009

Kid you not, drove by this place at least 5 times before we found it. Its nestled in a corner or a crack off of Jillian Street. Referred by my neighbor I was determined to find this place. We found it and were really blown away by the cool tile that was offered. I picked out about 125 pieces of Saltio and 16 hand painted tiles. We hired some really great guys to come and install the tile over my cement patio. I am in love with my patio now.

What I like the most about Fireclay tile is their philosophy on sustainability. Tiles are made from renewable and sometimes recycled materials. Also its a local business, I love supporting local businesses like them! I will be back. =)

Allison H. Bathroom

Dec 01, 2009

hi there staff at Fireclay: just an update. The tiles came as advertised and are, as always,GORGEOUS. I appreciate your heads-up on the color variation but, rest assured, they are PERFECT with the older batch. Sorry if I am ‘shouting’ but I am so very pleased. The tile guy put them in today and wow. So, thanks again for all of your efforts on my bathroom’s behalf (teehee!) It’s a bathroom primarily for my teenagers/college kid and probably way too sophisticated for them but it came out lovely.

Thanks again,

Hard to find, but worth the search

Nov 24, 2009

The place is hard to find, but worth the search. Many of the products are made out of recycled materials, and the boneyard has a fantastic selection of high quality tile. We will definitely be returning for future products.

Nobody has these colors!

Oct 17, 2009

This is the coolest place!
First, hand made tiles? how great is that, and their colors!!! NOBODY has these colors. When I first started looking at tiles, they seemed out of my price range, but the colors kept drawing me back. Eventually I did my whole shower out of them. I messed up on the quantity estimate, but even that was no problem. Paul and his crew helped me, gave me suggestions, sent samples, and generally helped out and treated me great.
Then, I went down to the boneyard. Oh my gosh, with a little effort I was able to get a fantastic bathroom set up for the same price as some generic kind of machine manufactured tile.
Finally, the idea that these are recycled, as well as beautiful, WOW.
I’d recommend not being deterred by the price. They’re worth it. And check out the boneyard. You’ll see stuff there you never knew you wanted!

Fireclay Tile’s Boneyard is the place to go

Jul 13, 2009

If you’re a do-it-yourselfer and on a budget for a small remodel, Fireclay Tile’s boneyard is the place to go.  They have thousands and thousands of loose tile at deeply discounted prices if you are willing to shift through to find what you need.  Many tiles were priced at $1 each, which got me itching to start a mosaic project.

For those of you with a little more resources, Fireclay is one of bay area’s best tile manufacturers.  Let me rephrase that… THEY ACTUALLY MAKE THE TILES LOCALLY.  That means reduced transportation and keeping jobs and skills local.  Their showroom has great choices for LEED certified projects.  Do plan ahead though, because these will be made to order and not in stock.

Come here for local, sustainable tile options with custom colors galore.  Do not come here if you’re expecting a generic tile showroom experience where product is special ordered from all over the world.  The staff is friendly and knowledgeable.  Thumbs up in my book!

Alex was incredibly helpful on the phone

Alex promptly returned a call regarding mounted/raised pebble stones for our bathroom stall, and Alex was incredibly helpful on the phone: (1) gave me the probable amount of pieces I would need for the shower stall we’re building; (2) checked the back for all in-stock pebbles and gave me the run-down and (3) offered to send the pictures to my email, since we’d be driving down to SJ from Millbrae.

I’m Telling you Now: Go

Feb 23, 2009

I’ve always wanted to visit this place and finally did today.  I was searching for some fun tiles for a friend who has invited her friends to donate tiles for her kitchen.

Well I thougtht I’d be here 10 minutes but I stayed for over an hour.  I got a mini tour of the firing ovens and the machine that makes the clay, and wandered around looking at the most beautiful tiles I’ve ever seen.  If you are looking for unique tiles you really should check this place out.  Most of it isn’t cheap but if you want something special it will be worth it.  Some are handpainted, some are from incredible molds.

Some of the tiles are made with recycled materials.  One line is made with lava stones.  They have a very thin product that actually has some flexibility.  My mind was spinning. They do have an area with discounted tiles if you are looking for stuff to use for mosaics or other projects.

Even though I just bought a few tiles I was treated with great courtesy.    That is the kind of customer service that causes people to tell their friends to go.  I’m telling you now.  Go.

THE LATEST WORD:

We were looking for a locally made tile and could not be happier with Fireclay’s Debris tile. The selection of colors is astounding, especially considering we wanted an eco friendly tile. Our order was done a little earlier than the projected time frame which when you are doing a kitchen renovation cannot be said for most other contractors we worked with. The handmade quality and subtle variation in color gave us a one-of-a-kind look for our kitchen. Also our tile installer, who had used Fireclay tile before, was super impressed with the tile quality and ease of installation. We will look to Fireclay tile for future tile projects.
