Fireclay Delivers a Home Run at AT&T Park

Mijita Restaurant AT&T Park Featuring Fireclay Tile Debris Series

Traci Des Jardin's new Mijita Restaurant at At&T Park features Fireclay Tile's Debris Series handmade tile and authentic Talavera tiles from Mexico. While we cherish Traci for her well chosen tile and stunning sense of decor, you all know her from her infamous vicotry of Mario Batali in Iron Chef or her James Beard Award in 2007.

Traci first learned of Fireclay Tile when she designed her first Mijita Restarant in San Francisco's Ferry Building. A winning combination of our Debris Series Recycled Tile in various mexican-inspired colors and authentic Mexican talavera tiles, proved successful and on brand, and she went in this same direction for her newest Mijita Restaurant in SOMA.

Fireclay's Debris Series Recycled Ceramic Tile is made from over 60% Bay Area waste products, including fine glass particles that are produced when things like Corona and Bohemia beer bottles are recycled. We use these waste glass particles that can't be used to make new bottles again to make the brilliant yellow, blue and cream tiles used in the new Mijita. The tiles were chosen for their beauty, durability, but most importantly because Des Jardin promotes sustainability in her restaurant and building practices. Hooray for people like Traci who live the way so many green experts only talk about.

As many of you know, we make all of our products custom order using efficient and sustainable manufacturing practices. Thus, we appreciate works in progress. We captured these photos of the project as it was being tiled by a great tile contractor, B Ziller.

Fireclay Mosaic Classes Featured in San Jose Mercury News - March 2010

March 24, 2010   |   filed under: Design Ideas   Fun-Eco Stories   Press   Company News   Showroom/Boneyard

image A few months ago we decided to further embrace our local San Jose community and start to offer Mosaic Tiling Classes taught by Delaine Hackney. Given how unique a tile treasure our Boneyard is, we thought what could be more fun than bringing in an expert to teach locals about both mosaic tiling and our unique, recycled sustainable tile. Though we are a manufacturer and sell our tile nationwide through a dedicated group of phenomenal dealers, we hate to throw anything away and use our Boneyard as a way to ensure each and every piece of Fireclay Tile finds a great home.

Our first class was a HUGE success!!!

The San Jose Mercury News wrote a wonderful article titled Oakland artist Delaine Hackney teaches students to make mosaics of favorite pets! Most impressive are the works of art that the class created. The Fireclay Ceramicists are quite impressed, and we look forward to many more classes and new creative designs to come from our Boneyard. Fireclay Featured in Beautiful New Bocanova Restaurant (Jack London Square, Oakland, CA)

September 1, 2009   |   filed under: Design Ideas   Company News   Showroom/Boneyard   Debris Series

At Fireclay we love food, and we love making our beautiful, recycled Debris Series tile for great food establishments.

Just this month, a wonderful new restaurant - Bocanova - has opened in the heart of Oakland’s Jack London Square. “Pan-American cuisine is the blending of culinary currents from Europe and the Americas while using the best and freshest local ingredients,” comments Bocanova-Executive Chef, Rick Hackett. Beyond the exquisite cuisine, the owners of Bocanova were committed to using sustainable materials and asked their architect, Michael Guthrie Architecture, to specify our Debris Series in the kitchen area. The tile’s 52% recycled material and local sourcing and sustainable manufacturing mattered to them, but the high quality and unique style were absolute requirements. We believe the result is great and can’t wait to go taste some of the delicious food!

“A Mission Revival Rises Amid the Palms” - San Jose Mercury News August 8, 2009

August 8, 2009   |   filed under: Design Ideas   Press   Company News   Showroom/Boneyard   Debris Series

Fireclay Tile was recently featured in the San Jose Mercury News for our reproduction of 100-year old tile from a Spanish-style Mission-revival house.

“The stark white house at the end of Plaza Drive in San Jose’s historic Palm Haven neighborhood takes you by surprise. It’s a small single story on a corner lot. But its domed tower and decorative parapet across the roofline force you to take a second look.

This is Michael Borbely’s mini-masterpiece — a recently completed Mission Revival house of stucco and tile that took years of research to create with the help of a local tile company to reproduce century-old details.

It’s not a big house, but it’s a flexible house,” he says. “I see this as able to double as a dining space” or a gracious area for wine receptions. A wainscoting of colorful tile, reproduced by Fireclay Tile, came from a 100-year-old photograph Borbely found.”

We were proud to be part of such a wonderful project!

Claymonde Makes Splash in Seafood Section of New Leaf Market (Santa Cruz, CA)

The New Leaf Market in Santa Cruz just opened a Westside location and chose our Claymonde product to really bring the Seafood section to life. New Leaf wrote a great blog post about it and we wanted to share it and the pictures as they show the limitless possibilities of Claymonde. http://newleafwestside.blogspot.com/2009/01/rhapsody-in-tile.html

We love what they did with the design and the large format Claymonde tile!

Our Claymonde product was highlighted in a nice blog post from the folks at Pope Street Modern. We love the Kiwi color they choose and their fun depiction of our product.

“Cathy is totally in love with that tile (she picked it out over a year ago), so we’ve worked to find things that would work with it. I’m thinking the shower will literally pop off the wall when we are done.” We agree! Thanks Pope Street Modern.

Fireclay for Pizzas???

We loved this blog post from a local customer who highlighting using one of our Factory Showroom products (which we buy from Gladding-McBean) as a pizza stone!

We LOVE pizza here at Fireclay, and using this product makes a ton of sense in this way.

Thanks for the suggestion.
