Susanne Redfield

Creative Consultant

Tile designer and ceramist Susanne Kibak Redfield merges her Danish roots and love of traditional crafts with a modern sense of restraint that brings just enough to the design without going over the top. After graduating from the University of California Santa Cruz in 1981, Susanne started her own business making ceramic tiles. She introduced Kibak Tile through Kneedler Fauchere, a revered interior showroom to the trade, then spent twenty five years in a successful relationship with Ann Sacks. "I began hearing about Fireclay Tile, their sustainable story and youthful energy really captured my imagination, I absolutely wanted to be part a company that really cares about tomorrow. Designing product for Fireclay Tile is energizing, truly inspirational.

Get Runway Ready with Fashion-Inspired Tile

Our Runway Collection patterns, Chaine Homme, Chaine Femme, and Cravat

Inspired by fashion, Austin-based designer, Kelly Laplante dressed up our Tile with a collection that celebrates some of the most classic elements in men and women's clothing.  From the tried and true houndstooth pattern to metal links found in vintage watches, these bold patterns are straight off the runway, and will add a stunning graphic element to your interior.  Now let's take a look at the inspiration behind our Runway patterns...

1. ) Our Chaine Homme pattern's interlocking geometric design is inspired by the links found in vintage watches.

2. ) Chaine Femme is effortlessly chic, with it's chainmail-inspired design featuring interlocking geometric silhouettes that are perfect for alternating contrasting shades.

3. ) Houndstooth goes graphic with Cravat's bold interpretation of the classic design. Sharp contours offer a dramatic contrast for two-toned palettes.

Now for some tips on how to get Ruway Ready with our Tile...

Go Bold!

Our Runway patterns are perfect for mixing hues to create striking color combinations.  We suggest pairing one vibrant hue such as our Tile color, Turquoise with one or two neutral colors.  This combination will give your space a bold splash of color without taking away from the overall pattern or design of your space.

Let the Patten Shine

Although our Runway patterns provide the perfect blueprint for color, there is something to be said for simplicity.  If you want the focus to be on the pattern itself try choosing just one hue, or a monotonal color scheme.  We love how the backsplash below uses our Chaine Homme pattern in Mica to create a subtle sense of graphic pattern.
